Take into consideration these things when you are trying to get new glasses for your children. Depending on the prescription, the glasses may need to be really thick. If this is the case, you will want to get smaller frames in order to have smaller and lighter lenses.
Consider your child’s feelings as well. You will want to make sure that they glasses they get will make them feel comfortable, not only on their face, but also in style as well. You will want to offer suggestions such as photochromic lenses or other features that may entice your child.
Other things to consider are the bridge and the temple style. The bridge of a child’s nose is not fully developed which may make it difficult to find the right glasses that will not slide off.
You also want to look at the temples on the frames, as they may be too tight or loose depending on the size of the child’s head.

It Is All About Men's Eyeglasses and Frames
For many men, the need for eyeglasses is not something they desire. However, the fact that they do need them does not make them any less important and any less of a fashion statement.
Men want to make sure that they get the kind of frames they are comfortable with and will want to wear. This means that they will need to look at a number of different options and compare and contrast the styles from horn rimmed to rimless as well as all of the other main styles of frames.
The materials that make up the glasses are important as well when you are trying to decide which ones you will buy. Do you want something that is feather light or something that is heavy. You also need to look at things such as nose pads and bridges.
You will also need to consider which material for the lenses as well as the coatings for the lenses. Once these are all factored in, then you can make a decision about your glasses and how you will look for the near future.
At our men's eye doctors offices, we specialize in the latest technology in optics and carry many unique frames not readily available. Make an appointment today or call 607-754-8670!

Is LASIK Eye Surgery A Good Option For You?
LASIK eye surgery is a good option for many people. In this type of procedure, the shape of the eye is improved which improves your overall vision. For many people, it has allowed for improvements to 20/20 vision. In fact, the American Academy of Ophthalmology states that as many as 90 percent of patients do reach that 20/20 level of quality after having LASIKS performed.
Keeping this in mind, it is also important to note that there can be other problems associated with the eye's health that LASIK does not address and can worsen. For example, many people who had dry eye symptoms prior to the procedure have increased symptoms afterwards. Other problems that some people face include shadows, halos, difficulty seeing at night, reduced contrast in their vision and glare.
Most people who have LASIK do state they are happy with the improvement to their vision. However, before you consider having this procedure done, do talk to your local New York optometrist about the risk factors associated with it and then make an educated decision if it is for you.

When Does Your Child Need an Eye Exam?
Most often, as a child develops, his or her eyes will change. In most cases, a child that visits his or her pediatrician routinely will not need a specialized eye exam from an optometrist. However, your child needs to have a doctor's exam of their vision done at least one time per year, most often it is best to do this every six months.
You do need to get a full eye exam from an New York optometrist if your family doctor says it is necessary and also do so prior to the child entering school. This exam is more thorough and will provide for a better understanding of the eye's health. Further, if your child will be in need of glasses, you can have the child adjusted to them before school starts.
Also, keep in mind that children who spend a great deal of time outdoors, or any time in bright sunlight, should be wearing UV protection. Take the time to protect your child's eyes to ensure their long term health.

Selecting Appropriate Sunglasses & Eyewear for the Summer
Purchasing sunglasses for the summer months should be a lot of fun, rather than a chore. Many people, though, struggle with the process. Which shape frame should I buy? Do I want big sunglasses or smaller ones? Should I get UV protective lenses or not? The investment in a pair of sunglasses should be as significant as purchasing a pair of shoes. You need them to be comfortable, protective, stylish and affordable.
There are three things to remember when it comes to buying the right sunglasses for this summer’s outdoor excursions:
#1: Invest in Protection
Any sunglasses you do purchase need to protect your eyes from the ultraviolet rays from the sun. The UV lenses you purchase should protect your eyes from the sun by 95 to 100 percent. In other words, they should block out as much of the UV light as possible. This protects your eyes, which most eye doctors will tell you is one of the most sensitive areas of the body when it comes to UV exposure. In addition, consider polarized lenses. These help provide you with another layer of protection, specifically against glaring sunlight that bounces off surfaces that are wet or otherwise reflective.
#2: Go Stylish
You could choose practical sunglasses to wear this summer. You would save a good amount of money and you most likely will find yourself looking at what works rather than how you look in them. However, there are two things to remember. First, you will find stylish lenses within your budget, including off brand and brand name eyewear. Second, you will find comfortable lenses that are stylish, too.
For this season, check out the big frames that help to exemplify the look of your face, drawing people to your eyes. Choose darker lenses rather than lighter ones. However, color is always a big player in the role of sunglasses. Do not be afraid to pick up a pair of sunglasses that scream color!
#3: Comfort and Budget Matter
Finally, find summer sunglasses within your budget. A wide range of products are now on the market that are less expensive, but still have those impressive features you are looking for. Further, you may want to consider some of the budget frames and lenses available through new brands just hitting the market’s shelves. These are trendy and fun, but at the same time they are highly fashionable.
Comfort is not something you have to give up. Designers are paying more attention to comfort now than ever before. They are also looking for products that fit the face better without giving too much attention to bulk or being too heavy to wear comfortably.
The good news is that you will find a wide range of choices on the market that fit all of these specific areas. Comfort is something that you can focus on while still getting affordable and trendy looks that protect your eyes from the sun’s harsh rays. Yes, you can have it all in today’s sunglasses for the summer months.
At our Optometrist office in New York, we carry many unique frames that cannot be found anywhere close to home such as Grant (made in Italy) and Elce (made in France) to name a few. Make an appointment today or call 607-754-8670!

Computer Eye Strain Stops Users In Tracks
According to some studies, as many as half of all computer users will experience some type of headache, blurred vision or even eyestrain from using their computer for a sustained amount of time on a regular basis. There has also been the establishment of heavy computer use and the risk of developing glaucoma.
Eye care needs to be a focal point of your daily use of the computer. The glare, poor lighting conditions, screen flicker rate and other factors all cause visual stress, which can lead to pain, discomfort and in some cases, poor eye health.
To avoid these problems, brush up on some eye care tips, including using eye exercises such as palming which allows you to cover one of your eyes with your hand until your eyes see nothing but blackness. Home eye care such as head rolls and even hydrotherapy, where a bowl of steaming water is placed in front of you to allow the effects of the steam to relax your eyes, can also be helpful. Use a wash cloth from that hot water placed over your eyes, without allowing them to touch the eyes. Doing this can ease eye strain and improve your eye care.
