Most often, as a child develops, his or her eyes will change. In most cases, a child that visits his or her pediatrician routinely will not need a specialized eye exam from an optometrist. However, your child needs to have a doctor's exam of their vision done at least one time per year, most often it is best to do this every six months.
You do need to get a full eye exam from an New York optometrist if your family doctor says it is necessary and also do so prior to the child entering school. This exam is more thorough and will provide for a better understanding of the eye's health. Further, if your child will be in need of glasses, you can have the child adjusted to them before school starts.
Also, keep in mind that children who spend a great deal of time outdoors, or any time in bright sunlight, should be wearing UV protection. Take the time to protect your child's eyes to ensure their long term health.
